The House
Elliott's Nest is on a quiet, tree-lined street less than two-tenths of a mile from the beach. At a leisurely pace, it takes only three and a half minutes from the front door until your feet hit the sand of the Gulf of Mexico. In front of the house is a shaded, screened-in porch. You can have privacy from the world but still enjoy the cool breezes.

The three bedrooms sleep eight adults comfortably. The master bedroom has a queen bed and its own bathroom with a shower. The back bedroom has four single beds set up as trundle beds. There is ample room for a crib in there as well. The middle bedroom is smaller but has a queen sized bed. A full bathroom is off the hall near the two bedrooms.

The living room has a couch and love seat, and the color TV has cable. There's a VCR for your favorite movies. (See Activities page for information about renting movies.) Off to one side is the bar that Mark built with his own hands while a mere pup in high school. The kitchen has a four-burner stove, microwave and dishwasher.

A washer and dryer is available in the laundry room for your use. Usually there's laundry soap available but feel free to buy some for the house if we're out.

House Expectations
Because only friends stay in the house we have found that when everyone chips in, care and cleaning is very easy. We do not use a cleaning service so the rental price stays low. There are a few simple things that you can do to keep the house in good shape.
Living Room

  • Bugs - Bugs are ubiquitous in Florida. To keep them out of the house, please make sure all food is put away in airtight containers. Wipe up any spills immediately and thoroughly. If you have a problem with ants there is ant killer in the laundry room. We have the house sprayed monthly!
  • Garbage - Recycling is picked up Mondays, Garbage on Tuesdays, and Horticulture on Wednesday. Please place the container at the curb by the mail box the night before.
  • Cleaning - Remember we do not employ a cleaning service and you are leaving the house for the next guest who may be arriving in a few days.
    • Sweep and vacuum all floors/rugs.
    • Wash and dry the sheets and towels. Place them back in the closet or on the bed.
    • Clean the bathrooms and kitchen. Cleaning supplies can be found in the laundry room or under the bathroom sinks.
  • Do not leave any food in the house when you return home. Throw it away and leave the garbage can by the curb.
  • Open several windows a crack for ventilation between November and March. April to October, leave the master bedroom air conditioner on low and shut all windows.
  • Lock all doors (including the back sliding door) and return the key to Mark or Pam.

Getting There
Front Door

Several taxi companies run service between the airport and Ft Myers Beach. The price is about $25-$35. Some of the companies are Errol's (770-3333), Best Value Taxi (768-1898), Local Motion (463-4111), and Paradise (470-7500).

Although you don't need a car on Fort Myers Beach, the convenience can be nice. Budget, Hertz, Avis, National and Dollar have counters in the airport. Most agencies close at 12:30 am. If you're taking a late flight, call and confirm that they will wait for you. The drive is about 25 minutes when traffic is light. Cars can be backed up for a mile or more over the bridge to get onto the island when traffic is heavy.

Driving Directions

  • When leaving the airport, head west on Daniels Parkway towards I-75.
  • Go 6 miles on Daniels Parkway to Six Mile Cypress Pkway. Turn left.
  • Go 4.3 miles on Six Mile Cypress Pkway to Sumerlin Road. Turn left.
  • Go 3.5 miles on Sumerlin Road to San Carlos Blvd. Turn left.
  • In about 3 miles you will go over the Sky Bridge onto Fort Myers Beach.
  • Turn left (follow the road left) just over the bridge. You are now on Estero Blvd.
  • Go 1/2 mile to Miramar Street.
